CULCHETH PÉTANQUE (BOULES) CLUB
Pétanque (or boules), which has long been popular in Europe, is one of the fastest growing pastimes in the UK. It
is an easy game to learn, can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities, and it costs very little to get started.
Culcheth Pétanque (Boules) Club is a section of the Culcheth Sports Club and was established in the summer of 2004.
Culcheth Sports Club built the current "piste" (the technical name for a pitch) in 2004. In March 2006 we were delighted
to be successful in a bid for Lottery "Awards for All" funding, which granted us £4800 to extend the size
of the piste to allow more games to be played concurrently, and to improve access, especially for wheelchair users.
Anyone interested in trying the game is welcome to try it out for up to three sessions before deciding whether to join.
We will lend you a set of boules, we will show you the basics, you can enjoy a few games, and hopefully you will soon be
hooked!
The Club meets on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings. The 2008 season Sunday sessions start on March 9th, weather permitting,
and continue each week until mid October. Thursday sessions start from the 10th April, again, weekly until mid October. Sunday
sessions start at 1.30 pm. Thursday sessions start at 6.30 pm.
Apart from occasions when competitions are scheduled, anyone arriving after play has started will be accommodated at a suitable break between games.
The club runs a number of internal competitions throughout the season, and participates in friendly competitions with
other local clubs. The club is affiliated to the English Pétanque Association. Members who are interested in
competing can try their luck in local and regional tournaments.
Juniors (under 15) must be accompanied by a responsible adult (parent or guardian).
We are more than happy to host events for local organizations or private parties, by arrangement. Past events for the
local Lions and Rotary clubs, and Warrington Ladies Circle, have proved very popular.
FIXTURES FOR 2008 SEASON

CLUB FEES AND SUBS
Annual fees for 2008 are £12 membership for adults, £20 for families. Subs of £1 per player are collected at
each session.
CASUAL PLAY
When the terrain is not in use by the club, casual play is allowed. A set of boules, and rules of the game, are kept
behind the bar, and can be borrowed for a returnable deposit of £5, and a fee of £2 per player to be paid in at the bar.
Section members can play at any time, for £1 per person per session, payable to any of the committee, at the next
section practice.
